Going Green

The Ship Inn has been making some important changes to reflect a growing sensitivity towards cultivating  a local economy and supporting sustainable food production while maintaining cost effective operations.
Changes in the last two years include:

  • Switching to locally pastured and /or grass-fed beef and hormone-free / antibiotic-free chicken
  • Purchasing locally grown vegetables
  • Purchasing locally roasted, organic, fair-trade coffee courtesy of Homestead Coffee Roasters in Upper Black Eddy, PA and loose leaf tea from Coffee Bean Direct in Frenchtown, NJ.
  • Purchasing sustainable, wild-caught fish courtesy of P & G
  • Composting or feeding local cows with our vegetable and brewery refuse
  • Installation of energy efficient windows
  • Consolidation of refrigeration for less energy usage
  • Addition of more vegetarian items to the menu
  • Installing a bicycle rack
  • Purchasing biodegradable straws, to-go containers, and sauce cups
  • Switching to compact florescent bulbs
  • Selling Ajiri Tea :-)

Future plans include:
Procuring organic grain for our brewery

Getting rid of tasteless, out-of-state tomatoes in winter.

Heating water through our cooking equipment
