The Ship Inn has been making some important changes to reflect a growing sensitivity towards cultivating a local economy and supporting sustainable food production while maintaining cost effective operations.
Changes in the last two years include:
- Switching to locally pastured and /or grass-fed beef and hormone-free / antibiotic-free chicken
- Purchasing locally grown vegetables
- Purchasing locally roasted, organic, fair-trade coffee courtesy of Homestead Coffee Roasters in Upper Black Eddy, PA and loose leaf tea from Coffee Bean Direct in Frenchtown, NJ.
- Purchasing sustainable, wild-caught fish courtesy of P & G
- Composting or feeding local cows with our vegetable and brewery refuse
- Installation of energy efficient windows
- Consolidation of refrigeration for less energy usage
- Addition of more vegetarian items to the menu
- Installing a bicycle rack
- Purchasing biodegradable straws, to-go containers, and sauce cups
- Switching to compact florescent bulbs
- Selling Ajiri Tea
Future plans include:
Procuring organic grain for our brewery
Getting rid of tasteless, out-of-state tomatoes in winter.
Heating water through our cooking equipment
Great meal this afternoon! Wish we lived closer and, love what you’re doing! Thanks for setting an example!
